Honeymoon in Mauritius

July 29th, 2010

If you are looking for the ideal place to spend your honeymoon, I can highly recommend Mauritius. Having just got back home, I can honestly say that it was an excellent decision , and one that we definitely wouldn’t have made without it being recommended to us by a lot of people .

Picking a destination is tough , and I decided to leave it to my wife, as my only specification was that it be warm . But after learning that she wanted to go to Mauritius, I must say that I was a bit apprehensive –  purely for the fact that I didn’t know much about Mauritius, and had presumed that we would be heading somewhere in the Caribbean.

After much deliberation (on my part) we decided to have our honeymoon in Mauritius. We discovered an internet travel agent and managed to find an all inclusive Mauritius holiday for a very good price. The only snag was that we were not sure how good the hotel was going to be (because it was a new build ) but once we’d arrived any anxieties we harboured quickly dissolved – the hotel was immense !

Mauritius holidays are becoming more and more popular; this is probably to do with the price as much as anything – it’s a lot cheaper than it once was . But the cost – in terms of what you get for your money – is extremely cheap . The weather is tropical , the wildlife is exotic , the people are welcoming , and the accommodation and service cannot be beaten .

During the honeymoon I was happy to relax by the beach the whole honeymoon, but my wife being my wife decided that she wanted to explore , and soak up some of the culture – which, at first, I mistook as code words for shopping and shoes ! So she dragged me along with her on the proviso that I could eat as much ice cream as my body could physically handle . Expecting my credit card to be apprehended and abused , I made sure that we stopped and thoroughly observed anything that looked like it might have a bit of historic or cultural significance … I probably went too far when I tried ( and failed) to pass off the public toilets as a magnificent piece of history ! Anyway, I can honestly say that I’m glad my wife did drag me along because Mauritius is a stunning place with a diverse culture… and they speak English! – Although the media is all in French! Mauritius has an abundance of dramatic forests and mountains , breathtaking beaches and coral reefs , and is home to one of the most famous surfing spots – Tamann Bay. It was also home to the now famous but unfortunately extinct dodo bird . The food is a mixture of all the different cultures, so there’s something for everyone .

A New England B&B

July 29th, 2010

We are opening our very own inn in Newport, Rhode Island. It’s a majestic yet quietspot with an ocean view. It’s not too near downtown and the mansions, but we still think we can see a profit given the spectacular setting. We plan to set it up as our ideal vacation spot, because we think that a lot of visitors to the area will have similar taste. There’s a front room with a big bay window overlooking the ocean that is perfect for a library. There’s plenty of light, and we’ll cover nearly every wall with polished wood bookshelves. Beside the window there’s space for some comfy chairs.

The entire bed and breakfast will be decorated in a very classic, old New England style. The house still has its original wide, live oak floor boards. There are fireplaces in a couple of the bedrooms, plus the library. The paint for the wall s will be historical New England colors–the blues, yellows, greens and reds that you can find in historic mansions in the area. My granny left us a whole houseful of beautiful antique furniture that we’re going to use. The bathrooms will be the only obviously modern rooms. They have all new fixtures and modern tubs. I want to get some really nice unique shower curtains for them from my friend’s business. The current favorites are some hand painted shower curtains or some simple monogrammed ones like these. The advantage of the monogrammed ones would be that they’d have the bed and breakfast’s monogram on them and so be a little subliminal advertising. On the other hand, I think my friend could paint us some really beautiful curtains with a symbol of New England, like the welcome pineapple or a seagull, on them.

It’ll be some time before the bed and breakfast opens. We were incredibly lucky to get this property, not to mention the furniture from my family. It’ll take us a while to save money and gradually decorate the place as we’d like, plus get it fitted out to be a working inn. But the prospect is very exciting, and we’re willing to put in the time and hard work.

Maternity rights in the UK – How is holiday pay calculated with SMP?

July 29th, 2010
Sarahmce asked:

I am due to go on maternity leave in November 07. My employer’s holiday year runs from January to December.

I qualify for SMP – 90% pay for the first 6 weeks & £112 per week for the remaining 33 weeks.

What I’d like to know is when I’m on maternity leave will I get paid holiday pay at the same rate as when I was working or will my ‘holidays’ also be paid at £112 per week?

I’m due to discuss maternity stuff with my employer next week but I’d like to be clear about this in my own head first! Thanks for any help you can give

Mauritius Club Life – Seeing is Believing

July 28th, 2010

When enjoying a Mauritius self catering Holiday nearly all people are of the belief that the finest places are to be found in Grand Bay to the Northwest of this stunning and ravishing island.

The Grand Bay night club scene and bar life has developed emphatically over the last few years and improved beyond all recognition. It used to be a little town used predominantly by the locals and consisting of some poor quality snack eateries and local bars, but now there is a wide range of decent night clubs and respectable bars in what has become a lively holiday playground resort.

Locals and tourists fill up the clubs and bars mixing together in affable harmony typically over the weekend break to optimize their time and enjoyment until the early hours of the morning.

It is very straightforward to find clubs in Grand Bay as the majority of the nicest ones are located either in the town center itself or a short saunter away at the most which is a enjoyable experience in the hot sultry island air.

The nightlife entertainment is in general very reasonably priced which is even more beneficial for those choosing to reserve their own Mauritius Self Catering unit as they are also able to combine a bar tour with a decent meal beforehand in one of the many good quality restaurants which are located in close proximity to one another.

Many bars and clubs offer free entrance, while the remaining ones charge a token entrance price, which makes it perfect for those on a strict budget.

There are even one or two places located right by the beach, so you can really enjoy a smooth cool drink, a cocktail or beer on the beachfront gazing up at the star filled sky. The region as a whole is one of the best places in Mauritius for bar hopping and watching the numerous bands playing live as most weekends there are bands performing live so if you wish to solely relax and enjoy the beach atmosphere or enjoy a live performance, you have come to the right place.

If instead, you wish to listen and dance to high volume throbbing music then a night club will suit more as they stay open until very late so it is not a good idea to turn up too early.

A lot of the bars and clubs start filling up after 11 pm and at some of the better places, there are a few tables and chairs outside to further promote the totally tropical experience.

The atmosphere over the weekend is remarkable, with lots of activity, a great feel and the smell of succulent dishes being prepared.

After so many hot hours enjoying the Mauritius nitelife experience the time has now arrived to return to your Mauritius Beach Villa for some well earned rest and relaxation, at least until the next night!
